I'm Lynn Sudbury, a CPA with Fort Worth CPA. Today, we will discuss depreciation recovery periods and their impact on earnings and profits. Depreciation refers to the allocation of an asset's cost over its expected usage period. To determine this period, you can consider the expected lifespan of the asset. The IRS and other tax agencies provide tables classifying different assets and their corresponding lifespans. For example, if you buy a computer for $3000, and the IRS assigns a three-year lifespan to it, you would divide $3000 by 3 to get $1000 per year. As a result, you would expense $1000 of the computer's value each year for the next three years. By doing so, your profit would decrease by the amount of depreciation incurred. Therefore, the depreciation recovery period directly affects your earnings and profits. At Fort Worth CPA, I, Lynn Sudbury, aim to enhance your bottom line. Visit us at Fort Worth CPA calm.
